Requirements for the Music Industry Studies Concentration

The Department of Music offers the Bachelor of Arts in Music with a choice of five concentrations (Liberal Arts, Performance, Instrumental Education, Music Industry Studies, and Vocal Education) that provide the necessary coursework to prepare students for various career options in music. All music students must confer once each quarter with his/her advisor to check academic status and to plan future work.

The Music Industry Concentration is designed for the student who is interested in the current and emerging careers in various music and entertainment industries (such as audio production/engineeering, sound and music for film and video games, radio, concert production, record label management, etc.)  Students in this program will get real world hands-on experience with industry professionals through internships and capstone projects.

It is encouraged for students taking this concentration to pursue a minor in Business.  If the student completes the coursework in the Business Administration Minor for Non-Business Students below with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.2, they would be able to apply for the ability to fast-track into the MBA program here at Louisiana Tech.  This provides the student an opportunity to complete an accelerated 5-year BA in Music/MBA program with a specialization in Music Industry Studies.

However, students are free to choose the minor offered at Louisiana Tech that best fits their interest and career goals.
