The Master of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics at Louisiana Tech University provides a course of in-depth study of nutrition and dietetics principles while developing students’ research skills.  This degree includes  a thesis option, which requires 30-semester hours of credit, and a non-thesis option, which requires 39-semester credit hours.  Students will complete a reseach project in either options.  Although most of the required coursework in the MS program in Nutrition and Dietetics is offered electronically, the program itself is not considered an on-line program.  Courses may require synchronous online class meetings.  Most course meetings are designed to accommodate working students.  The research committee may request face-to-face meeting(s) during the research process.  Students who are enrolled concurrently in the master’s program and the dietetic internship will also take some courses that are delivered in the traditional face-to-face format. 

Required courses for the thesis option include: FNU 504 ; FNU 528 ; FNU 529 ; and HIM 505 ; and FNU 551  (students must enroll each quarter they are using University resources, although a maximum of 6 hours of research will apply to the degree for the thesis option); plus 12 hours of approved courses to be selected based on the student’s area of interest.  Required courses in the non-thesis option include FNU 504 , FNU 528 , FNU 529 , HIM 505 , and FNU 506 , plus 24 additional hours to be selected in consultation with the graduate advisory committee.  Students in both options are required to complete a comprehensive exam and defense of the thesis/non-thesis research project.
