Objectives
The Bachelor of Arts in Communication (with concentrations available in Communications Studies, Journalism, or Theatre) is designed to allow the student to study communication in its various aspects of contemporary communication, from interpersonal and small group communication to media literacy, journalism and theatre. The degree offers specific content concentrations in the areas of Communication Studies, Journalism or Theatre. The BA in Communication curriculum has 15 hours of core curriculum that all three concentrations share.
The Communication Studies Concentration requires 15 semester hours of core courses and 39 hours of communication concentration courses (including 9 hours of directed electives). All courses are concentrated in contemporary theory, research, and practical application of communication principles. This Concentration area focuses on communication courses specific to the area of study. Additionally, this curriculum offers 21 elective hours.While the degree can lead directly to careers in public relations, corporate consulting, advertising, journalistic writing, and digital and web design, it also serves as a rigorous discipline enabling students to pursue graduate work in a variety of fields.
