Requirements for a Minor in Music

The Music Minor program is designed for qualified students who have a strong interest in music as a secondary subject. Students desiring to pursue a music minor must meet with a Music Department advisor for specific details and to fill out appropriate paperwork. The minor consists of 21 hours as follows:

MUTH 101: Music Theory I 2 Semester Credit Hours
MUTH 102: Music Theory II 2 Semester Credit Hours
MUTH 103: Music Theory III 2 Semester Credit Hours
MUEN - Major Ensemble (Band or Choir) 1 Semester Credit Hour
MUPV - Music Applied Private Lessons 4 Semester Credit Hours - must be on the same instrument
MUAP 100: General Recital 0 Semester Credit Hours - concurrently with private lessons
MUPD 300: Beginning Conducting 1 Semester Credit Hours

MUHS 301: Music History I 2 Semester Credit Hours
MUHS 303: Music History III 2 Semester Credit Hours
MUHS 410: Piano Literature 3 Semester Credit Hours
MUHS 430: Vocal Literature 3 Semester Credit Hours
MUHS 431: Choral Literature 2 Semester Credit Hours
MUHS 432: Survey of Opera 3 Semester Credit Hours
MUHS 433: Survey of American Music Theatre 3 Semester Credit Hours
MUHS 307: Introduction To Jazz History 2 Semester Credit Hours
or other music courses selected in consultation with the music advisor
